The Thankful Project Day 2: A Role You've Played

It's time for day 2 of The Thankful Project. For the month of November, I will be linking up with Kenzie over at Chasing Happy for this project.

Day 2: A Role You've Played

I would say this is hands down being a teacher. I love teaching. I love meeting a new group of kids each year and seeing them grow a little by little each day. I love the ah ha moments, the days lessons go so great, the participation, the drama, the lesson plans, the group projects, the presentations, the review games- I love teaching.

While there are parts of teaching I don't care for {administration crap, PTCs, grade reports, ect.} there is so much that is great about being a teacher.

I am so thankful that I went to a school with a great education program. I am thankful that I stuck through my professional year and got the license to teach secondary education. I am thankful that I have found something to do that I am passionate about. I love teaching history. It's one of the greatest things in my life.

While I am currently overseas teaching English, and some days the phrase 'listen and repeat' really gets on my nerves, I still enjoy working with the kids. There are bad days, but the good ones usually make it all worth it.

I know that in a few years I will probably be doing something slightly different, but I also know that I will never go too far from teaching.

I love my kids. I really really do. I love that I am 'friends' with some of my students from last year on Instagram.  I am so thankful that I made an impact of their lives. That they feel comfortable being 'friends' and sharing their lives with me.

{PS- That is allowed because I am no longer their teacher.}

Teaching is really hard, and there are some days I just want to bang my head against a wall. But overall, it is completely worth it. And really how cool is a teacher's schedule...

So do you guys have a role that you are thankful for? If so, what is it?

    1. I really do. There are definitely days where I want to pull my hair out, but most of the time it's perfect.

  2. Teachers are really kids' second set of parents. They are often overlooked at, and, really, they shouldn't be. I am glad you love what you do, and that you are thankful for being a teacher, because it is such a privilege.

    1. Teaching is such a privilege. I think if you don't like what you do- then stop doing it. There were a few teachers I worked with back in Hawaii that were always complaining and were stuck in the job because of the paycheck. It was always annoying to be around them because they didn't really enjoy the kids. But I think that's the best part of teaching! Thanks for your comment.
