Kids Say the Darndest Things

This week my mom called me to share a funny thing Jud did on his 'Man Date' with Barry. 

It was a typical Jud funny story, and I knew it needed to be documented. 

Friday night, Jud and Barry had a father son date out to dinner. Barry took Jud to The Varsity, a local fast food joint that Mom hates.

The Varsity is one of those places that everyone in Georgia knows about. If you have visited Georgia and you never went to The Varsity, you missed out. And if you are planning to go to Georgia, the Atlanta location needs to be on your list of things you must visit.

Anyway, The Varsity has a location near our home and Jud and Barry often go there to get some hot dogs and fries.

One of the most famous things about The Varsity is their saying: "What'll ya have?"

And they say it really fast and they say it over and over- like this: What'll ya have what'll ya have what'll ya have?

And you go and order.

So Jud and Barry got to the restaurant and Barry said "Jud, wait right here and think about what you want to eat."

Then Barry turned around to take a call or do something and all of a sudden he heard:

"What'll ya have? What'll ya have? What'll ya have?" in a really loud voice that sounded a lot like Jud.

 Barry turned back around and there was Jud, at the counter with one of the Varsity hats on (see picture below), yelling "What'll ya have."

Oh that kid makes me laugh!

But the story gets better.

After they ordered their food and sat down Jud asked "So what language are they speaking?"

Barry: Who

Jud: The workers at the counter

Barry: Jud, that's English

Jud: Really?

Barry: Yeah Jud, it's English just with an accent.

Hahaha! So all this time Jud thought the people at the counter yelling "What'll ya have, What'll ya have, What'll ya have" were speaking a different language.

Gotta love that kid! 

Kids Say the Darndest Things

February 14th was our first day back at school from our intersession break. While my kids were intersession, I assigned them a quick assignment to get them thinking about Social Studies. 

My students needed to pick two of their favorite places on Oahu and describe why they enjoy those places. {We are talking about human and physical characteristics of certain places in the Pacific Islands.} 

Anyway, these projects were due Friday and being the great teacher I am- I graded the projects this weekend. 

Some were great and some were not so great. Here are two paragraphs from two different students. 

{I don't know what makes me laugh more: "disserts" or that fact that "Frod and Sam" go to this restaurant.} 

{Ah the perfect student... his favorite place is the LIBRARY!}

Same project... same age... same grade... completely different quality. Oh the joys of teaching 7th grade! 

I love my kids! I really really do! 

Kids Say the Darndest Things # 1

I am lucky enough to have been blessed to be an older sister to two crazy boys and one sassy girl, and I have been blessed to have a full time job as a teacher of 11-13 year olds. 

And I say blessed, because with these kids in my life (both my siblings and my students) there is never a dull moment. 

Because I have learned: Kids Say the Darndest Things! 

So, I decided a new blog series should be born. 

Kids Say the Darndest Things is all about the things my students and little siblings have said or written about at some point. 

This series is all about my students and siblings cracking me up and making me glad they are in my life.  This idea started when I wanted to write down all the funny things Jud and Olivia have said over the years. These kids are seriously the funniest kids ever, and I didn't want to forget anything they said. 

So in thinking this, I came up with this series, but I also wanted to document my students and the great things that come out of their mouths or their pens as they are writing. 

I hope this series gives you as many laughs as it gave to me. 

Here is the first installment: 

This is a short answer response from one of my students. The prompt was to pick another district in Hawaii to move to. Then they had to describe what made them choose that district, using the physical and human characteristics of the district. Here is what Student A came up with- 

Yup, you read it right. She said "Gerafic Park"- which is really "Jurassic Park"

And hungary for hungry 

And you might see some "cerleberties" 

Now, the purpose of this was to make you laugh - not worry/ scare you about the state of our children's writing skills. Cause they are quite bad, but please just laugh with me.
