Friday Letters #36

Happy Happy Friday Y'all!

I feel so guilty- I've been off my blogging game this week. But to make it up to you- I will be posting my first detailed Angkor Wat post for you tomorrow. I usually don't post on Saturdays, but since I missed both my Monday and Thursday posts- I thought I would do one tomorrow.

This week has been pretty low key. Here's what we've been up to:

Dear Saturday and Sunday, Thank you for being a pretty low-key weekend. It was nice to relax and get some studying done. While I love going out and exploring Korea and taking trips overseas- I really love the lazy weekends. I love binging on Netflix and feeling productive studying for the GRE.

Saturday we actually found something really special here in Korea. Avocados. Dear Avocados, For real- so exciting. I can't tell you how great it was to find you in our local grocery store. You were worth all 5,000 Won. Mmmm- so tasty.

Dear Monday, So nice of you to arrive so quickly. {Note the sarcasm.} I really wish 3 day weekends were an every week occurrence. Dear Mom, Thanks for sending my package. It was like Christmas in May. I was so excited to see my Girl Scout cookies and Peeps included in this package. It was also exciting to see all the clothes I ordered a while back from Old Navy. There were a few things in there I had no recollection of ordering, so it was a nice surprise. Dear Jessie, Thanks for getting me Girl Scout cookies- seriously- the best cousin ever! Love you mucho.

Dear Tuesday and Wednesday, Work was same ole' same ole'. Nothing too exciting happened. I continued binge watching Bones. And I finished re-reading the Fablehaven series. If you haven't read the Fablehaven series- you're missing out. It's YA literature, but I really enjoy reading it. It's a series of 5 books and I think you should check it out. It's such an easy read. I also ordered the invites for the Bridesmaids' Lucheon I'm throwing my best friend back home. I might not be able to make it to the wedding, but nothing will stop me from supporting my friend on her big day.

Dear Man in Elevator, Thank you for starting a conversation with me in the elevator. It was nice to have a brief conversation in English. We only exchanged a few sentences back and forth, but I can't tell you how much it meant to me to speak English. To have someone look at me for the purpose of talking WITH me. Not just staring. Not just to talk about me. It was awesome.

Dear Thursday, Thank you for arriving so quickly. While I love Fridays- you hold a special place in my heart. When you come- I know the week is almost over! Dear Kate, It was so great to see you on the bus ride home. I miss seeing you in class every week. I'm glad high school is going well, but I miss my favorite student. It was nice speaking English with you. (Kate was a previous student- she studied in New Zealand, so her English was great).  It was always nice to be able to have long meaningful conversations with a student.

Dear Dad, You will be here next week! Can you believe it? I'm excited to see you and show you around Korea.

Dear Friday, Woo hoo. You're here! I look forward to another relaxing weekend full of studying and Netflix. Tonight, Matt and I had our usual Friday night BBQ. Like always, it was delicious and the best part of my week. Dear Ashley Teacher, Thank you for inviting us out to dinner tomorrow. I am looking forward to meeting your husband and establishing our friendship outside of work. Yay for friends in Korea!

And that was my week.

Have a great weekend.

Love, Alex

  1. Nothing says spring like Girl Scout Cookies! I always made my mom send me those too when I was living in Busan

    1. I love getting packages filled with goodies from the states. I can't imagine life in Korea without some American treats every now and then.

  2. Now totally reconsidering our plans to move to Korea at some point. No avocado availability is a big deal breaker for me!
